Ewan Roach Mersey Valley FC

Another goal for in-form defender Ewan Roach

Valley started the game well, looking faster and sharper and took the lead after 5 minutes. Evans with the long throw, Adams with the flick and in-form Ewan Roach was in the right place again to score his 5th goal in the last 6 games.

The home side resorted to long ball football from the keeper but and Roach and youngster Jimmy Taafe won all the big challenges and keeper Sam Phillips was on hand to tip over the only real the home side created in the first half.

The second goal came before half-time. Another long throw from Evans was met at the front post by Adams who headed past the keeper who should have done better but couldn’t keep the ball out.

Valley pick up where they left off. A Woolley corner was headed home by Adams who lost his marker to score another goal, his 14th of the season.

The home side had to change and a change of shape did the trick. Elliott Wrench moved in a centre role and started causing problems. A free kick on the edge on 52 minutes was smashed directly past Phillips to make it 3-1.

The game became closer with Valley unable to reproduce the first half display and the home side made it 3-2 on 75 minutes. A Valley corner was cleared an an impressive counter attack punished the visitors and then a lucky deflection took the ball past Phillips.

Owen Adams

Owen Adams…two hat-tricks in four days and now club top scorer.

The game was on the edge but the visitors stood firm and found the extra gear they needed. A good spell of pressure end with Owen Adams in the right place at the right time to poke the ball home from close range after a scramble in the box.

Jamie Walsh, making his debut went close after good work from Riley and stood firm defensively to claim the three points and keep the pressure on Stretford Paddock and Lymm Rovers in the promotion race.

MAN OF THE MATCH

REECE SKELTON

A brilliant performance in the heart of the midfield from Skelton who has been impressive since joining the club in December from Premier League side Vulcan. His work rate was incredible, his passing excellent and he didn’t lose a tackle all night.
