David Atkinson came over from another local club, bringing across his team for more opportunities. During a discussion with our football development officer
Dave said “I brought our ladies team across for a complete change, this included club, venue and even to move to the Greater Manchester Women’s League. Mersey Valley has a fantastic venue, great pitches and has the potential to help me develop this team to future success”.
Dave has previous won the Cheshire Women’s and Youth Football League, and now looking to redeveloped and make progress with the Ladies of Mersey Valley.
A rocky start to the season, with so many players coming and going, disrupted the first 3rd of the season. The team then settled down and became consistent, which reflected in their performances.
A small squad allowed the team to play together consistently every game. However, this was sometimes our downfall. Only 15 in the squad resulted in some games with 9, 10 or 11 players on match day.
Players injured or working left us short for the last 2 months of the season. In addition, this was our busiest period, playing games on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays to play our games in hand.
The performances were getting better and better, as were the results. A great end to a fantastic first season at Mersey Valley. Well done Ladies. Looking forward to our second season at this great club.
