It was an odd weekend in Cheshire League 2 – 5 games played, and every one ended in a draw!!

The big game of the weekend saw two of the promotion favourites go head-to-head as Lymm Rovers travelled to St Helens Town. With both teams unbeaten this promised to be a closely fought game.

The visitors struck first, Harry Quarmby slotting home but the lead didn’t last long. Dale Whitehead with the equaliser making it 1-1 after 15 minutes. Quarmby was in the right place again on 54 minutes and restored Lymm’s lead with a good finish.

With Lymm holding on and the home side pilling on the pressure Everson in the visitors’ goal made a couple of great saves but the game hinged on an 88th minute red card for Lymm player Nathan Christopherson. With the clock on 90 the home side equalised – Charlie Simpson grabbing the goal!

That result gave leaders Stretford Paddock a chance to go clear at the top with a trip to Skelmersdale to take on Haydock. A tight first half ended with the home side taking the lead, a horrible error by keeper Salceanu gifting an own goal for a 1-0 half-time lead.

Paddock equalised on 66 minutes, Victor Iyumva racing clear to knock the ball past the keeper and roll into the back of the net. No more goals and another drawn game.

Another draw as new boys Halton Farnworth Hornets drew with Newton-le-Willows – another side who could have gone top with a win.

Amazingly another side could have gone to the top with a win – Newton Athletic, but they were involved in a 10-goal thriller against Maine Road Reserves. No Newton information was recorded on full-time, for the visitors – Saine, Richards, Mackaay, Hallinan and an own goal. The visitors ended with 10 men as Igbinosun was sent off on 90 minutes.

The final draw of the day came in Northwich, Hartford and Wigan Town drew 2-2.
