St Helens Town extended their lead at the top of League Two with a 1-0 win over Maine Road Reserves, league top scorer Marc Gibson with the only goal of the game. Maine Road keeper Joe Taylor was in fine form making a string of fine saves for the visitors.
There was a surprise result in Lymm as visitors Sandbach Town earned an excellent away point with a 1-1 draw, both goals coming in first half, Roberts for Lymm and Mohammed Zadeh with his 5th goal of the season.
Haydock moved up to third place with a thumping 6-1 victory over struggling Hartford who have now gone six games without a win. Lewis Perrin was the hero with first half hat-trick, Glover, Rawson and Walker with the other goals.
The game of the day was in Widnes and it didn’t disappoint. Halton Farnworth Hornets took on Wigan Town and the home side took the lead on 8 minutes – Danny King tapping home after a good save. The home side made it 2-0 on 24 minutes, Sam Harrison lifting the ball over the keeper.
The visitors have been in great form recently and they showed their never say die attitude shone through as they scored twice in the last 6 minutes to earn a point. Captain Ryan Meadows the hero again as he scored the equaliser on 86 minutes.
It was the day that new boys Warrington Rylands Development had been waiting for and they recorded their first win in style beating out-of-sorts Newton-le-Willows 5-1 – goals from Reuben McHugh (3), Rhys Williams and Harvey Clarke.
Mersey Valley beat Moore United 5-2 with an excellent second half performance. Niall Goldrick with a hat-trick and Sam Deering with a brace. Read the full match report here.
In the Premier League Lostock Gralam lead the way, they beat St Michaels DH 3-2 with goals from Djabi, Payne and West. Champions Poynton are in second place and recorded another victory away at Garswood – league top scored Ed Driver with a brace.
At the bottom Altrincham Reserves are still searching for their first win, they lost at home to Eagle Sports.
In League One Daten and Knutsford are tied at the top on 23 points each. Daten drew 3-3 away at Malpas which allowed Knutsford to close the gap with a 4-1 win over Upton with goals from Mathers (2), Draper and Blades.
Most teams return to league action this weekend after the Cheshire Cup weekend last time around.
St Helens Town should continue their unbeaten start when they welcome Maine Road Reserves to Ruskin Drive, the visitors are the draw specialists but are still looking for their first win of the season – it will be a big ask for them to get it here.
Another unbeaten side, Lymm Rovers, are also at home and take on mid-table Sandbach Town. With four wins from their five games Rovers have made a brilliant start to the season but Sandbach are a much stronger side this season and have three wins already and pushed leaders St Helens Town hard when they met two weeks ago.

Stretford Paddock are in Cheshire Cup action as they travel to Manchester to take on Boothstown U21 Bullets.
It was an odd weekend in Cheshire League 2 – 5 games played, and every one ended in a draw!!
The big game of the weekend saw two of the promotion favourites go head-to-head as Lymm Rovers travelled to St Helens Town. With both teams unbeaten this promised to be a closely fought game.
The visitors struck first, Harry Quarmby slotting home but the lead didn’t last long. Dale Whitehead with the equaliser making it 1-1 after 15 minutes. Quarmby was in the right place again on 54 minutes and restored Lymm’s lead with a good finish.
With Lymm holding on and the home side pilling on the pressure Everson in the visitors’ goal made a couple of great saves but the game hinged on an 88th minute red card for Lymm player Nathan Christopherson. With the clock on 90 the home side equalised – Charlie Simpson grabbing the goal!
That result gave leaders Stretford Paddock a chance to go clear at the top with a trip to Skelmersdale to take on Haydock. A tight first half ended with the home side taking the lead, a horrible error by keeper Salceanu gifting an own goal for a 1-0 half-time lead.
Paddock equalised on 66 minutes, Victor Iyumva racing clear to knock the ball past the keeper and roll into the back of the net. No more goals and another drawn game.
Another draw as new boys Halton Farnworth Hornets drew with Newton-le-Willows – another side who could have gone top with a win.
Amazingly another side could have gone to the top with a win – Newton Athletic, but they were involved in a 10-goal thriller against Maine Road Reserves. No Newton information was recorded on full-time, for the visitors – Saine, Richards, Mackaay, Hallinan and an own goal. The visitors ended with 10 men as Igbinosun was sent off on 90 minutes.
The final draw of the day came in Northwich, Hartford and Wigan Town drew 2-2.
