Mersey Valley FC was formed in 2014 following a merger between Sale Town FC and Mersey Valley Sports Club. The 2014/15 season was our first in the Cheshire Football League and was a successful season, finishing 3rd and narrowly missing out on promotion.
A 6th place finish followed, and a league restructure saw us moved into Division 1 for the 2016/17 season. This was to be the club’s best season so far, a 7th place finish, winning the Altrincham & District FA Cup and the Reserves won the Reserve League 2 title.
The next couple of seasons were not as successful and at the end of the 2018/19 season the club made the difficult decision to fold the senior teams in order to concentrate on developing a stronger junior section within the club – a decision which was backed up by two years that followed with COVID.
The 2022/23 season saw the club return to the Cheshire League with a new management team in place, but it was a poor season with only 4 wins recorded and a final goal difference of -97, the team ending up in 12th place.
A new management team was appointed in the summer of 2023 and it was a positive first season in charge, finishing 8th in a very competitive division.
The future looks bright.
