Mersey Valley’s poor start to the new season continued yesterday with a 7-0 home defeat to Clay Brow, after the game we spoke with manager Jon Hudson.

We always knew that this league would be tough and to play three very strong teams in our opening three fixtures has been really hard – plus missing key players for all three games has pushed the squad and exposed weaknesses.

We were outplayed by Winsford and Clay Brow but unlucky against Daten but we have not done enough in any games to have deserved more. To have conceded 17 goals in 3 games and only scored 1 is a very concerning stat – missing our two centre backs that were so key last season has played a factor but we have also contributed to this – 15 of those goals have come from our own individual errors, something we need to put right.

I have always taken responsibility for results and that remains, we have not got things right and we know that we need to improve the squad, hopefully before Tuesday night.

We have 5 huge games still to play in August and we will soon have a full squad to pick from so then we will judge our position. We’ve played the teams who are currently 1st, 2nd & 4th – so we’re not hitting the panic button yet, we have 27 games left to play – a lot of football.

It hurts to lose game, have opposition players laughing at you in game and other teams so obsessed with us they mention us on their match feeds every week – this is the time for us to stand together, time, patience and hard work will get us to where we need to be and I have full faith in the lads to get this right.
